The 17-year-old Toledo youth who was fatally shot early Friday at Auburn Avenue near West Bancroft Street was struck by three bullets, Dr. Diane Barnett, Lucas County deputy coroner, said Saturday.

Two of the bullets struck Montelle Taylor in the back and hit several critical organs, Dr. Barnett said.

The third bullet grazed his right arm.

A handgun was used to shoot Montelle, but Dr. Barnett was uncertain of the caliber.

Police found him bleeding in the street on Auburn Avenue near West Bancroft Street at 1:20 a.m. about half a mile from his Grand Avenue home. He was alert and talking but died at Toledo Hospital.

Police have not named any suspects and said there was no evidence of gang involvement.

His death was the city’s second homicide last week and its seventh this year.
