Toledo police Thursday recovered a car that is believed to be linked to a homicide and arson Monday in Sylvania Township.

Township Police Chief Robert Boehme confirmed that a car related to the case had been seized, but declined to provide details, saying that to do so might compromise the investigation of an Inland Drive resident’s death.

A body tentatively identified as that of L.C. Lyons, Jr., was found in Mr. Lyons’ home at 5218 Inland Monday morning by firefighters responding to a fire there. Confirmation of the victim’s identity awaits an examination of dental records, not yet completed by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office yesterday afternoon.

Deputy Coroner Cynthia Beisser on Wednesday declared the case a homicide with the victim killed by a single gunshot to the head. The State Fire Marshal’s Office found the fire to have been set to cover the shooting.

“Our detectives are following a lot of leads and developing information,” Mr. Boehme said. “This does not appear to be a random act. The neighborhood is as safe as it was before this tragic event.”
