Toledo fire crews battle number of fires

Toledo fire crews fought a flurry of fires across the city late Monday and early Tuesday, including an arson house fire in South Toledo and an East Toledo building fire of a yet undetermined origin, authorities said.

There were no reported injuries, according to the Toledo Fire Department.

Reported at 4:07 a.m. Tuesday, the fire at a commercial building at 703 Woodville Rd. was extinguished by about 7:30 a.m. Several people were displaced by the blaze, firefighters said.

The loss was estimated at $225,000. Built in 1924, the building is owned by Professional Improvement Co., Ltd., and houses an apartment and a beauty salon.

The fire at a single family wood frame house at 525 Maumee Ave. in South Toledo was ruled as intentionally set. It was reported at 11:16 p.m. Monday and extinguished within about 90 minutes. The loss was estimated at $21,000.

The other fires damaged a single-family wood frame home at 548 Everett St. in North Toledo and another two homes at 1467 Vance St. and 952 Pinewood Ave., both in the central city. The causes of those fires were under investigation.
