Juvenile hurt trying to stop car

CONTINENTAL, Ohio — Troopers at the Lima post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating an incident that left seriously injured a juvenile who jumped on the hood of a car.

Troopers said that about 6:30 p.m. Friday, a vehicle was taken from the 100 block of Elm Street in Continental without permission of the owner, Nancy Stauffer. A juvenile associated with the vehicle tried to stop the car by jumping on its hood. The juvenile fell in front of the vehicle when the driver, Rebecca A. Krueger, 18, of Napoleon, hit the brakes. The driver pushed the accelerator and ran over the juvenile.

The juvenile, whose name has not been released, was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio, with serious injuries, troopers said. Ms. Krueger and a juvenile passenger were not injured.

Ms. Krueger was charged with not wearing a seat belt and driving without a license. The matter was forwarded to the Putnam County prosecutor for review.

Continental is 55 miles southwest of Toledo.
