Two men were shot in Toledo Thursday in what police say are unrelated incidents.

Myron Payne, 24, was shot around 12:35 a.m. in the 300 block of Belmont Avenue. He was shot by a stranger who fled, apparently in a robbery gone wrong, authorities said.

He was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for gunshot wounds to the hand, back, and both legs, police said.

Nearly 12 hours later, a man whose identity has not been released was shot in the leg at Superior and Lagrange streets after an attempted robbery, Toledo police Detective Jay Gast said. The man was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries. The victim was approached by the suspect who was possibly after a can of beer, the detective said.

Police describe the gunman in the second shooting as a black man in his late teens, about 5 foot, 4 inches to 5 foot, 5 inches tall. Police say he fled in a white four-door vehicle.
