BOWLING GREEN — City Council on Monday will consider raising the hourly rate for police officers who work special duty assignments on their own time.

An ordinance before council would increase the hourly rate from $20 to $28 and hike the amount the city would charge organizations that request the services from $27 per hour to $37. City Administrator John Fawcett said it is increasingly difficult to get officers to take the special duty assignments because the rate of pay was less than they were paid for regular duty.
