Toledo Police issued a warrant Friday for a city man, 23-year-old Joe E. Hill III, in the robbery and shooting of a clerk of a convenience store downtown.

Mr. Hill, who had a 2010 address in the 1000 block of Pinewood Avenue, is accused of aggravated robbery.

Ahmad Deen, 63, struggled with a robber who displayed a handgun in the Lucky Dollar store at 1713 Jefferson Ave., police said. Investigators later found a wrapper for $50 bills inside the Hillcrest Hotel, following the 6:20 a.m. hold-up.

Mr. Deen was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment of a bullet wound in the left shoulder and a gash on his head. He told authorities that a man in black clothes, with a black mask, and showing a black handgun came in while he was in a back room making coffee. Mr. Deen said there was a struggle and he was struck several times on the top of the head with the gun and then shot.
