An assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Toledo was in stable condition Sunday night at Toledo Hospital after he was hit by a car Saturday morning.

University officials said Todd Mitmesser, 40, of West Toledo’s Old Orchard neighborhood, was hit while out for a run in Toledo and suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. The coach had just returned Thursday from Israel with the team.

City police officials were unable to say where or when the accident occurred, and university officials refused to divulge details of the incident.

The university released a statement from Mr. Mitmesser’s wife, Susan Hazels Mitmesser, that the family appreciated the well-wishes from everyone in the Toledo Rockets community. Mr. Mitmesser was hired from the University of Evansville to join the women’s coaching staff in 2008.
