A Bedford Township man who authorities say was responsible for four bank robberies in Monroe County is being held in the Lucas County Jail after he led police on a chase and then hid in a Toledo apartment Tuesday.

The 21-year-old man is believed to be responsible for robberies at Citizens Bank, 7485 Lewis Ave., Temperance, and the Monroe Bank & Trust, 6560 Lewis, in May. Authorities believe he held up the Bank of America branch at 7405 Lewis on Feb. 19 and again last Saturday.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office say authorities chased a white Ford Fiesta Tuesday that they had tried to stop in the area of Lewis Avenue and Smith Road in Monroe for not having a license plate.

The suspect fled into Toledo, where the pursuit was called off, in the area of I-75 and I-280, because of the heavy volume of traffic. However, a short time later, the Toledo Fugitive Task Force located the suspect vehicle in an apartment complex on Manhatten Boulevard and found the suspect hiding in one of the apartments. He was taken into custody without incident.

He is charged with fleeing and eluding and four counts of bank robbery. Identification of the suspect is pending extradition and arraignment to Monroe County.
