The death of a Toledo man who died in a hospital Monday night after he was stabbed in his South Toledo residence has been ruled a homicide.

Michael Cobb, 54, of the 200 block of Kingswood Trail Drive, was taken to University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m., Toledo police said.

The victim was sleeping in bed about 10:20 p.m. when he was stabbed in the chest, a Lucas County coroner’s spokesman said Tuesday. He got up, removed the knife, and collapsed onto the floor.

The death was ruled a homicide caused by a single stab wound that penetrated the heart, the coroner’s spokesman said.

Toledo police had no one in custody Tuesday night. Women who were at the victim’s residence Tuesday refused to comment.

The homicide is the 20th in the greater Toledo area this year.
