Fatal Michigan collision is under investigation

MORENCI, Mich. -- Authorities are investigating a crash in which a Morenci woman died after a two-vehicle crash in Fairfield Township.

Carol Smith, 71, was killed after the vehicle in which she was a passenger, driven by Arnold Smith, 76, was struck by a pickup at Sand Creek Highway and Packard Road, at 4:50 p.m. Thursday.

State police said Brandie Woodruff, 28, of Sand Creek was westbound on Packard and drove through a stop sign, striking Mr. Smith's northbound vehicle.

Mr. Smith and Ms. Woodruff were taken to a local hospital. He was then taken by helicopter to Toledo Hospital, where a spokesman said she had no information about a patient by that name.
