A fire of a yet undetermined origin destroyed an unoccupied home early Wednesday in North Toledo, authorities said.

The fire at 2606 Chestnut St. was reported at 2:52 a.m. by a neighbor who saw smoke and flames coming from the house, according to the Toledo fire department.

Fire crews had the fire under control in 30 minutes, by which time the blaze had spread throughout the 1 1/2-story wood frame house. Firefighters remained at the scene until 7 a.m. making sure hot spots didn’t ignite, according to the department.

A short time later, demolition crews started to raze the house.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The fire damage estimate was unavailable.

The Lucas County Auditor’s Web site lists Clarence Evans as the owner of the house, which was bought last year for $4,500. It was built in 1914.
