BOWLING GREEN — A 65-year-old Grand Rapids, Ohio man was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegally talking online with a young girl — or a law enforcement officer posing as a young girl.

Paul D. Emans was arrested on a felony-level charge of importuning and lodged in the Wood County jail pending arraignment Thursday in Bowling Green Municipal Court.

Capt. Scott Frank of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office said detectives were contacted Oct. 4 by the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Bedford County, Va., about the case. Investigators posing as a girl under the age of 16 there said they had been chatting online with Mr. Emans.

Captain Frank said deputies in Wood County took over the investigation and arrested Mr. Emans, who has no prior convictions for such activity, at his house Wednesday.
