Butler County homicide suspect dies in Luna Pier

LUNA PIER, Mich. -- A Butler County, Ohio, homicide suspect is dead after being surrounded by Monroe County authorities Saturday night.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office alerted local authorities that a suspect in a homicide earlier Saturday was possibly in the Luna Pier area.

The suspect's vehicle was found parked outside the Super 8 motel in Luna Pier, according to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The first floor of the motel was evacuated after it was determined the suspect was in a room on that floor.

Members of the the sheriff's office, Luna Pier Police Department, and Michigan State Police surrounded the building after a gunshot was heard coming from inside the suspect's room. Authorities determined the suspect had taken his own life.

Officials are not releasing the name of the suspect at this time.
