Toledo house destroyed in arson fire

An arson fire destroyed a vacant house early Wednesday in central Toledo, authorities said.

There were no injuries, according to the Toledo fire department.

Fire crews arrived at a boarded-up house at 842 Oakwood Ave. near Lincoln Avenue and I-75 about 1:06 a.m. and saw that the the two-story wood frame structure was fully engulfed in flames, firefighters said.

The crews fought the blaze from the outside of the house and brought the fire under control at 2:58 a.m., according to the fire department.

The Lucas County Auditor’s Web site lists Joe Melvin, Sr. as the owner of the house. It was built in 1907.

The fire was ruled an arson, Toledo police said.

The fire damage estimate was unavailable. The house was valued at $19,700, according to county records.
