Toledo Police have charged an 18-year-old in a Nov. 4 shooting that left a woman and her 4-year-old son seriously wounded.

Deangelo Overton, of 633 Woodland Ave., was being held in the Lucas County jail for an unrelated crime when he was questioned by police for the shooting on Byrneport Drive that left Sandra Felder, 34, and her son Jashon Veasley, wounded, police said.

During an interrogation, police said Mr. Overton “confessed to firing the shots” and “he did not intend to shoot these victims and was firing at another individual in a robbery that went bad.”

Mr. Overton is facing two counts of felonious assault and one count of improper discharge of a firearm.

Ms. Felder was released from the hospital just after the shooting and Jashon was recently released from the hospital, police said.

According to Toledo Municipal Court records, Mr. Overton was arrested and charged with breaking into a home in the Old West End and robbing a woman at gunpoint in the 2000 block of Robinwood Avenue. Those charges were dismissed Friday.
