Police arrest man in Monroe robbery

MONROE -- Michigan State Police arrested a man Thursday who allegedly robbed a gas station at knifepoint Wednesday.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was being held in the Monroe County jail and was expected to face a robbery charge during a court appearance Thursday morning, troopers said.

Authorities say the man went into the Monroe Mobil gas station, 1153 N. Telegraph Rd., and bought a pack of gum.

When the clerk opened the cash register, the man allegedly pulled a knife and took more than $300.

With the clerk's help, troopers were able to identify the man immediately, authorities said.

Troopers searched several locations before finding the man at a Frenchtown Township apartment complex where troopers also found the knife and "a quantity of narcotics."

Authorities say the man "confessed to his involvement in the armed robbery."

A second man who was found at the apartment was arrested on multiple felony warrants, authorities said. He was also being held at the Monroe County jail.

Troopers said they do not believe the second man was involved in the robbery.
