2 get promotions, new assignments at area highway patrol posts
1/9/2012The top commander at the Toledo Highway Patrol post will soon be leaving for a promotion in Findlay and the post’s new commander will transfer from Bowling Green.
Lt. John Altman was promoted Monday in Columbus to the rank of staff lieutenant of the Findlay post. He will be an assistant commander there.
Sgt. William Bowers, of the Bowling Green post, was also promoted Monday to lieutenant. He will transfer to Toledo to become the post commander.
Lieutenant Altman joined the patrol in 1998 and was first assigned to the Ravenna post where he was named trooper of the year in 2001 and 2003. He was promoted to sergeant in 2003 and transferred to the Ashtabula post. As a sergeant he also served in the Hiram and Canfield posts.
In 2008 he was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to Toledo, where he was the post commander.
The lieutenant has a bachelor’s of science in criminal justice from Youngstown State University, which he earned in 2001. He also completed training at Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command in 2010.
Lieutenant Altman lives in Toledo with his wife, Martha, and their three children; Kelli and Molly, 8, and Carson, 5.
Lieutenant Bowers joined the patrol in 2000 and was assigned to the Bowling Green post, where he earned the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement in 2002 and 2005. He also earned the Criminal Patrol Award in 2003 and 2004 and was named post trooper of the year in 2004.
In 2006 he was promoted to sergeant and was an assistant post commander at the Bowling Green post.
Lieutenant Bowers lives in Waterville with his wife, Kristi, and their daughters, Morgan, 10, and Brooke, 3.
