A Toledo man charged in the fatal shooting of his cousin was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Monday.

James C. Smith, 35, of 1937 Parkdale Ave. was charged with murder with a gun specification. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Smith is accused of shooting Antonio Johnson, 27, on Dec. 30 at Smith’s Parkdale address. Mr. Johnson was pronounced dead shortly after the incident at Toledo Hospital.

According to police, Mr. Johnson traveled to the Parkdale address about 4:15 p.m. and pounded first on a screen door and then, after breaking that door, on the main door. Police say Smith fired one shot through the door and it struck Mr. Johnson in the chest.
