An East Toledo man died Saturday night of stab wounds shortly after emergency personnel arrived at the house he shared with his girlfriend, Toledo police said Sunday.

Jane Campos, 45, called 911 at about 7:48 p.m. Saturday and reported that her boyfriend, Jeffrey Fitzpatrick, 50, was not breathing at their residence at 1319 Greenwood Ave., No. 1, said Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

Fitzpatrick, who like his girlfriend had a long list of run ins with police, had at least one knife wound to the chest, police said.

He died shortly after emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Sergeant Heffernan said.

The couple had been quarreling, Sergeant Heffernan said.

Police questioned Ms. Campos about Fitzpatrick’s fatal chest wound, and she was arrested and booked for murder at the Lucas County jail.

“The two were living together,” said Sergeant Heffernan, who did not know what they had quarreled about. “We have enough to charge her with the murder.”

The suspect’s oldest sibling, Joe Campos, said she had come to his house earlier Saturday and showed him knife marks on her arm.

“She told me he attacked her with a knife earlier,” said Mr. Campos.

Mr. Campos said he was asleep when Fitzpatrick was killed next door.

His sister and Fitzpatrick had dated for several years and lived on Greenwood Avenue for several months, Mr. Campos said.

Fitzpatrick was convicted in 2003 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for crack cocaine possession, and a few years earlier he had pled no contest to charges including felonious assault.

A yellow rose, memorial plaque, and note bearing the signature “Danny, Tonya & your real love Kathy,” were left on the porch of the four-apartment Greenwood Avenue house.

Said the note: “Why we come to this no one knows but we will miss you & love you forever … “
