DEFIANCE — Two Indiana men were killed Sunday in a one-vehicle accident on Cicero Road, just north of State Rt. 2 in Defiance County’s Hicksville Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Joseph Sholl, 42, of Auburn, and John Sinclair, 47, of Butler, were pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Paul Brose, Defiance County coroner.

Troopers said Mr. Sholl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving south at a high rate of speed, lost control of his 2010 Chevrolet Camaro at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, and went off the east side of Cicero, hitting a mailbox, utility pole, and tree. The car then struck another tree broadside.

Troopers said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Seat restraints were in use by the passenger.

Three double-fatal crashes have occurred Sunday in the region.

A driver and his passenger were killed in a fiery crash after he lost control of a pickup truck and drove off the road into a yard, striking a tree, and then catching a house on fire in Sandusky, police said.

And, two people were killed and another person was critically injured in a head-on car collision in Monroe County’s Erie Township in Michigan.
