Two Toledo police officers were assaulted Saturday night by the man they were placing under arrest for another assault.

The man was subdued with a Taser and taken into custody, Toledo police Sgt. William Wauford said.

Police responded about 6:30 p.m. to a report of an assault in an apartment in the 3400 block of West Alexis Road. As the officers tried to arrest a man, he resisted, grabbed one of the officers, and tried to choke her, Sergeant Wauford. That officer, Tanja Farrell, was treated at Toledo Hospital, as was Officer Robin Matejewski.

The original victim, Irene Speweik, 63, was punched and kicked during the assault. She too was treated at a hospital, Sergeant Wauford said.

Torey Cordland, 24, of 3403 West Alexis, was treated at Toledo Hospital and then booked into the Lucas County jail. He was charged with felonious assault; assault on a law enforcement officer; giving false information; obstructing official business, and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned Monday in Toledo Municipal Court.
