Firefighters respond to The Andersons

The Maumee Fire Dept. responds to smoke which appears to be behind warehouse 6 at The Andersons on Illinois Sunday.

Firefighters Sunday afternoon responded to a pipe fire in a fertilizer dust system at a warehouse at The Andersons Inc. in Maumee, said Fire Chief Thomas Wagener, Jr.

The fire call came in at 3:02 p.m., and about 4:30 p.m., firefighters were still at the scene.

The smoldering fire was found by two employees, a company spokesman said.

There were no injuries, the chief said. About 25 firefighters plus personnel at the Andersons were on the scene, he said.

A portion of Illinois Avenue near the warehouse was closed, but has reopened.

No cause for the fire or damage estimate were available.
