Authorities have searched the home and office of a Maumee physician in a case involving medical records and firearms, Toledo police said Friday.

The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, assisted by the Toledo Police Metro Drug Task Force; the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and Maumee police, searched the office of Dr. Barry DeRan, 5705 Monclova Rd., and his home on Old Pine Lane in Maumee Wednesday.

The office search was centered on medical records and the home search entailed firearms violations, the task force said, but did not provide details.

Dr. DeRan, who could not be reached for comment at his home or office, has not been charged.

Toledo police referred questions to Chris Reed, state pharmacy board compliance officer, who did not return a call for comment.

Dr. DeRan, who specializes in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine, is a 1986 graduate of the former Medical College of Ohio, now the University of Toledo Medical Center. The State Medical Board of Ohio lists no formal actions against him.
