2 pizza drivers robbed in Toledo

3/4/2012

One of two pizza delivery drivers who were robbed in separate incidents Sunday was injured when one of his assailants used a box cutter to cut his head and face, police said.

Toledo Police Sgt. William Wauford said Jacob Bennett, 22, Toledo, was attempting a delivery for Royal Pizza at a home at 2820 Lawrence Ave. in the central city shortly before 5 p.m. The driver became suspicious because the home appeared vacant when he approached the door. He turned to leave when he was accosted by two young men, Sergeant Wauford said.

One of the men slashed him with the box cutters and made off with the pizza and a small amount of money. Mr. Bennett was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for stitches, Sergeant Wauford said.

Both assailants fled.

The second holdup occurred around 7;30 p.m. when a Vito’s pizza driver was robbed by a masked man with a gun, who came out from behind a shed and demanded money and the pizza.

That holdup took place at 1158 Gribbon Lane in northwest Toledo.

The driver, Richard Tursich, 33, Toledo, was not injured, although cash and the pizza were taken, Sergeant Wauford said.
