Crash on I-75 injures 9

CYGNET, Ohio — A four-vehicle collision Sunday on I-75 in Wood County’s Portage Township injured nine people and shut both the southbound lanes for nearly an hour, troopers with the Bowling Green post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

None of the injuries from the accident, reported at 4:15 p.m., were life-threatening and all but one of the injured people were taken to Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green, for treatment.

Troopers said Sarah E. Daniels, 21, of Carleton, Mich., was driving north on I-75 when she lost control of her SUV and slid into the median, where her vehicle overturned several times and landed in the southbound lanes, where it caused a chain reaction accident involving three southbound vehicles.

Ms. Daniels’ SUV collided with a car driven by Amal H. Haji,21, of Columbus and a van driven by Kerry N. Hayes, 43, of Walton, Ky.

Mr. Hayes lost control and struck a vehicle driven by Justin A. Spivack, 25, of Cleves, Ohio.

Ms. Daniels, who was cited for failure to control, and her passenger, Amanda Ranazzi,21, of Toledo, were injured. Both were wearing seatbelts, troopers said.

Also injured was Mr. Haji and his passenger, Najmo H. Haji, 20.

In the Hayes’ van, Addison M. Stagner, 5; Nedrah C. Stagner, 35, and Peyton C. Stagner, 10, all of Alexandria, Ky., were injured, although Mr. Hayes was not. All were using seatbelts or child safety seats, troopers said.

Mr. Spivack sustained minor injuries but declined treatment, troopers said, and his passenger, Weili Jin, 30, of Cleves, was not injured. Both wore seatbelts, troopers said.

One of the southbound lanes was reopened an hour after the accident and the second lane was reopened around 6 p.m.

Conditions were not available on the injured people.
