Troopers discontinue patrol of Government Center

3/9/2012

Starting Monday, troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol won’t be posted to One Government Center during business hours, but the patrol “will continue to have a daily presence in the building,” Lt. Anne Ralston, a patrol spokesman in Columbus, said.

The change in security came as operation of the building was transferred to the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, said Jen Sorgenfrei, spokesman for Mayor Mike Bell.

Government Center houses Toledo, Lucas County, and state of Ohio offices. State troopers have been at the building most business days since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The highway patrol will respond to all calls for service and emergencies and is working with the administrative services department and the private security firm on duty at the building “to make sure they have everything they need,” Lieutenant Ralston said.
