Ambulance workers injured in Ottawa County crash ID'd

OAK HARBOR -- Authorities identified on Saturday two ambulance workers who suffered minor injuries Friday night when their vehicle collided with a trailer towed by an oncoming sport utility vehicle on State Rt. 2 in Ottawa County's Benton Township and overturned.

Lindsey N. Rasmussen, 49, a passenger in the North Central EMS ambulance from Milan, Ohio, was trapped for about 40 minutes after the 10 p.m. crash west of Opfer-Lentz Road, troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol's Sandusky post said.

She was then flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment, but her injuries proved to be minor, as were those of ambulance driver Steven K. Gwinner, 38, of Cas- talia, troopers said.

The ambulance was returning from a run and carried no patients.

Jeffrey M. Szutnik, 52, of Toledo, was westbound on Route 2 when his truck, towing a homemade trailer, crossed the center line and the trailer struck the ambulance, causing the ambulance to flip onto its side. Mr. Szutnik was not injured.

Mr. Gwinner was treated at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.

The crash remained under investigation Saturday.
