A Bryan man fleeing a Fulton County sheriff's deputy on Airport Highway was injured Saturday when his car struck a utility pole at Garden Road near Toledo Express Airport in Lucas County, troopers with the Swanton post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The chase began about 12:50 p.m. on a report of a reckless driver eastbound on State Rt. 2/U.S. 20 Alternate between Delta and Swanton in Fulton County.

The deputy requested assistance from the highway patrol when the cars entered Lucas County.

Troopers caught up when the fugitive's car went off the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned several times.

Frederick J. Allen, Jr., 23, who was thrown from the car by the impact, was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio, with nonlife-threatening injuries, troopers said.

The car had been reported stolen from Morenci, Mich.

Charges are pending, authorities said.
