Authorities Wednesday identified Brandon Allen of Sylvania as the bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in North Toledo.

Mr. Allen, 33, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with critical injuries, according to Toledo police. A hospital spokesman said his condition was unavailable.

Mr. Allen was riding north on Bush Street about 9:30 p.m. when he ran a red light at the Buckeye Basin Greenbelt Parkway, at which time he was struck by a vehicle driven by Christopher Hodge, 37, who was driving east on Greenbelt Parkway, in the curb lane, and was unable to see him, police said. Mr. Allen was thrown from the bicycle onto the grassy median, officers said.

Another driver had used the horn to warn Mr. Allen of the oncoming traffic but he kept riding, according to police.

There was no word of citations.
