Bedford resident thwarts home invasion by 3 men

Three men wanted by Monroe County sheriff’s deputies in connection with at least two home invasions.

TEMPERANCE — A Bedford Township homeowner fired his handgun Tuesday at the getaway minivan driven by one of three men wanted by Monroe County sheriff's deputies in at least two home invasions, police said.

No one was injured in the most recent incident.

Deputies said a man who came to the door of the residence on Meadowbrook Way about 12:45 p.m. coaxed the homeowner outside.

The homeowner became suspicious, told the man to leave, and went back inside, where he found two other men. They ran when the homeowner got his gun, reports said.

The homeowner went outside with the gun, and as the minivan backed down the driveway, fired a shot, striking the driver's side front fender, deputies said. As the minivan sped away, one of the suspects emerged from behind the house.

While the homeowner held the man, the minivan drove past the residence. The man ran to the vehicle and was picked up by his cohorts. Deputies said nothing seemed to be missing from the home.

The first man wore black clothes, was between 5 feet, 7 inches, and 6 feet tall and weighed about 160 pounds. He had black hair, possibly a mustache, and spoke in unaccented English.

The other two men also work dark clothing.

The minivan was white or light-colored with an Ohio registration -- and a single bullet hole in the driver's side front fender.

Deputies said the men might have been involved in one other home invasion and an attempted home invasion over the past week using the same technique.
