Car wrong way on one segment

Bond was set at $15,000 Thursday for a Toledo man accused of leading Sylvania Township police on a chase on I-475 into Springfield Township early Wednesday, authorities said.

Gerald Jordan, 62, of 2714 Chestnut St., appeared in Sylvania Municipal Court on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to comply with a police officer's order. He was ordered held in lieu of bond pending his next court appearance Monday, according to a court clerk.

Sylvania Township Deputy Police Chief Ray Carroll said Jordan, believed to have earlier driven to Toledo from Bowling Green, was westbound on I-475 near Corey Road at 3:14 a.m. Wednesday when he passed police crews who began chasing him. The car was traveling more than 80 mph despite having a flat tire, Chief Carroll said.

When officers caught up with the car -- by this time southbound on I-475/U.S. 23 -- a cruiser hit its rear bumper in an attempt to make it stop.

The car fishtailed, but its driver regained control and drove for a while before crossing into the northbound lanes, where he drove the wrong way for about 300 feet before recrossing the median into the southbound lanes.

A police cruiser stopped the car near the Airport Highway interchange in Springfield Township by striking it and pinning it against a guardrail.

After being treated for minor injuries at Flower Hospital, Jordan was booked into the Lucas County jail.
