Arson was suspected as the cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant house in West Toledo Saturday morning, authorities said.

No injuries were reported in the fire at 1834 Brame Place that broke out about 4 a.m., according to the Toledo Fire Department.

Fire crews arrived minutes later and saw a single-story wood-frame building heavily engulfed in flames. They extinguished the blaze about 6 a.m. but the house was a total loss, firefighters said.

Although the fire's cause remained officially undetermined later Saturday, arson investigators were sent to the scene.

A damage estimate wasn't available. The Lucas County Auditor's Web site lists Robert and Carol Walls as the owners of the house, built in 1921 and last assessed in 2009 at $59,500.
