Authorities have identified Susan Carter, 43, as the woman whose dead body was found early today on a bench outside the downtown Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, according to Toledo police.

Ms. Carter, of LMHA Flory Gardens Apartments, was pronounced dead about 7:10 a.m. on the bench where she was found, said Steve Kahle, a Lucas County coroner’s investigator. Mr. Kahle said it was unclear how long the woman was on the bench and that the cause of death was pending an autopsy tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.

She was found dead just after 7 a.m. in the park at the intersection of Adams and North Michigan streets, Toledo police Sgt. Phil Toney said.

No foul play is suspected, he said.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan said a person driving to work first noticed the woman on the bench and thought it was suspicious that she was there by herself at an early hour, calling the police, Sgt. Heffernan said.

The coroner removed the body from the area about 8:30 a.m. today.
