Man killed in police chase in Lima

LIMA — A man was killed today after he drove a stolen vehicle into a parked pickup truck during a police chase, authorities said.

At about 2:55 a.m., Lima police attempted to pull a motorist over during a traffic stop at Kibby and West streets, according to the Lima Police Department.

The man quickly drove away when a police offer tried to speak with him. The officer followed in pursuit.

During the police chase, the driver struck a parked truck on the 700 block of Greenlawn Avenue and died at the scene, police said.

The 700 block of Greenlawn is about 200 feet from Kibby and West.

Sgt. Chris Sprouse declined to give the deceased man’s address and age because he said he was not allowed to give out more information since the family had not yet been notified.

He also declined to give more details on the incident.

Passenger Vicki Pummel, 54, of Alger, Ohio, was taken to Lima Memorial Hospital, police said.

A hospital spokesman said nobody by that name was listed at the hospital.
