Toledo woman facing 5 charges in police run-in

A 29-year-old Toledo woman accused of speeding toward a police sergeant in a vehicle Saturday was arraigned Monday on multiple charges.

Ebony Harris, of 844 S. 13th St. is charged with felonious assault, failure to comply, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. During her hearing Monday in Toledo Municipal Court, she was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $125,000 bond.

According to a Toledo police incident report, officers were at Big'z Bar and Grill, 2600 W. Sylvania Ave., at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday trying to disperse a crowd and eventually had to fire pepper spray at several people who "became rowdy."

In a police report, Sgt. Danielle Kasprzak wrote that a gold Dodge Stratus, traveling at a high rate of speed, drove toward her and two officers, Hany Youssef and Andre Antoine.

The sergeant reported that she tried to run out of the vehicle's path, but when she did, the vehicle accelerated and turned toward her, forcing the sergeant to "leap" out of the way, the report states.

Another police crew was able to stop the vehicle after a brief chase. Both people in the car were arrested.

Vernon Young, Jr., 28, of 550 E. Central Ave., the passenger, was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest. He was released from the county jail on his own recognizance.
