Toledo police investigating overnight shooting
5/24/2012Toledo police today were investigating a shooting incident that occurred in South Toledo overnight, police authorities said.
Tommie Evans III, 24, of Steeplechase Circle, drove to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he was admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. The injury did not appear to be life threatening, according to police.
About 3:43 a.m., a police officer saw a vehicle driving erratically on Byrne Road near South Avenue. The vehicle eventually stopped at UTMC, where the driver fled from the vehicle, officers said.
The victim claimed he was shot at an afterhours club at Jesse James Plaza in the 500 block of South Reynolds Road. Police later went to the plaza to investigate the claim but did not find a crime scene, police said.
The incident remained under investigation.
