Two injured after vehicle hits home in Marblehead
5/31/2012MARBLEHEAD — A Toledo man crashed his minivan into a home this morning near the village of Marblehead, sending himself and one of two people inside the residence to the hospital, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Robert H. Balduf, 92, was eastbound in a Chevrolet Venture on State Rt. 163 in Danbury Township about 10:40 a.m. when he swerved off the left side of the road and struck a culvert. The minivan went airborne, struck a utility pole, and then hit 6887 East Harbor Rd., according to the state patrol.
The impact’s force against the home’s vinyl siding pushed forward Sandra Cook, who was in the living room watching T.V., but the minivan never entered the home. Mr. Balduf was taken by air ambulance to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, in critical condition.
Sandra Cook’s husband, Oscar Cook, was also inside the home at the time of the crash, according to the state patrol. Mr. Cook, who was asleep in the bedroom, was not injured. Ms. Cook was taken to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton as a precaution.
“She was just all shook up, basically,” Trooper T.J. Dray said.
There were no other cars on the road at the time of the crash, and it was unclear what caused Mr. Balduf to swerve.
