Central city crash leaves man critically injured

Toledo police Friday continued their investigation into a multiple-vehicle crash that injured three people and closed a major intersection near Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center nearly 2 1/2 hours.

Jason Wampler, 20, of Lagrange Street was listed in serious condition in St. Vincent late Friday.

The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Cherry Street and East Delaware Avenue.

Police said a pickup driven by Mr. Wampler sideswiped a vehicle at a high rate of speed, then slammed into the back of a car, causing it to strike another vehicle head-on. The pickup veered across the intersection and struck a utility pole, officers said.

Two occupants of one of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries.
