Monroe Street in central Sylvania was closed for several hours Wednesday after police received a call about a suspicious object and summoned the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad.

"A little after 9 a.m., we received a call from a resident who was walking in the area," Sylvania police Capt. Rick Schnoor said. "They saw a bottle with quite a bit of electrical tape wrapped around it, and they were concerned."

Police summoned the Sylvania Township Fire Department, which recommended the bomb squad be brought in. But after several hours, the bottle was deemed nonhazardous.

School was not in session at Maplewood Elementary.
