MONTPELIER — A 66-year-old man is dead after he was involved in a crash in Williams County.

An autopsy on William Winder, of Pioneer, Ohio, will likely be done Thursday, according to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

Mr. Winder was driving southbound on St. Rt. 15, approaching County Road J, when he hit a truck driven by Robert Convey, 37, at about 10:35 p.m. Monday according to the Defiance Post of the State Highway Patrol.

Troopers reported that Mr. Convey, of Bryan, was involved in a separate crash just before Mr. Winder became involved. Mr. Convey was not injured in either crash, troopers said.

Troopers said that Mr. Winder did not maintain enough distance between vehicles, which was a factor in the crash.

Mr. Winder was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, former Medical College of Ohio, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Montpelier Fire Department, Williams County EMS, and Life Flight assisted with the crash.
