Toledo firefighters rescued three unconscious people from a burning house in East Toledo early Sunday.

A 12-year-old who escaped the blaze at 702 Dover Pl. reported to firefighters arriving after the 6:05 a.m. 911 call that two adults and another child were still inside, said Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld, a Toledo Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters from Station 6 in East Toledo entered the house in “fast attack” mode and carried out the three people who had been overcome by smoke in a first-floor bedroom, the lieutenant said.

Two were taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon and then flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, while the third was taken directly to St. Vincent. Their names and conditions were unknown as of Sunday evening.

The fire department reported the blaze under control at 6:36 a.m., but crews remained on scene for several more hours.

Lieutenant Hertzfeld estimated the damage at $25,000. An accidental cause appeared likely, but the fire investigation was incomplete Sunday evening, he said.

The Lucas County auditor’s Web site lists the house as being built in 1952 and owned by Laura K. Vargo.
