Four adults and a child became homeless when a fire of a yet unknown origin destroyed a multi-family dwelling on Toledo’s east side, authorities said.

The occupants escaped unhurt by the time fire crews arrived at 2:08 a.m. and saw heavy flames coming from the rear of the second floor of the two-story building at 337 East Broadway, according to the Toledo fire department. The names were not released.

Firefighters attacked the blaze and extinguished it by 7:03 a.m., at which time what remained of the four-family residence was demolished, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The damage estimate wasn’t available.

The American Red Cross Greater Toledo Area Chapter assisted the occupants with accommodations.

The Lucas County auditor’s Web site lists Trinidad Holdings LLC of Falmouth, Mass., as the owner of the structure, which was built in 1907. It was bought for $15,000 from Aurora Loan Services LLC, of Littleton, Colo., in 2009.
