North Toledo man dies after shooting self as feds serve warrant

A Toledo man who shot himself in his house while federal marshals were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on him today has died, authorities said.

Michael L. Jordan, Jr., 28, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, according to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

Federal marshals entered a home this morning on Champlain Street in North Toledo after hearing a gunshot while they were there to serve an arrest warrant, according to Toledo police.

Sgt. Joe Heffernan said the marshals found a man inside the home at 1810 Champlain St. with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was to be picked up because he is accused of threatening a city of Toledo assistant prosecutor in a recent criminal case, he said.

The marshals forced their way into the home shortly before noon after hearing a single gunshot, the sergeant said.
