Police: Man killed self as marshals arrived with warrant

A Toledo man who died in a hospital Tuesday after shooting himself inside his residence while federal marshals were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on him had threatened a city of Toledo assistant prosecutor, authorities said.

Michael L. Jordan, Jr., 28, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after the 10:49 a.m. incident, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

Federal marshals forced their way into the home in the 1800 block of Champlain Street near Ash Street in North Toledo after hearing a gunshot while they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Mr. Jordan, Toledo police said.

Police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said Mr. Jordan was accused of threatening a city of Toledo assistant prosecutor in a recent criminal case.

Marshals found Mr. Jordan with what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

"The defendant, Michael Jordan, by his pattern of conduct, did knowingly cause the victim, Arturo Quintero, to fear physical harm to himself and his family, when he made threats to the victim, and stated that he had followed the victim home from the city parking lot and spoke of knowing the victim's wife and child," according to a complaint filed Monday in Toledo Municipal Court.

"The defendant made numerous references to several handguns and semiautomatic firearms, and defendant had several firearms removed from his home by police," the document said.

Mr. Quintero, an assistant prosecutor, could not be reached for comment.

According to the affidavit, Mr. Jordan was charged with menacing by stalking. The alleged offense happened on or about June 30, according to the document.

Adam Loukx, Toledo law director, said the menacing charge against Mr. Jordan stemmed from a recent case in which Mr. Jordan was charged with domestic violence. The case was set for pretrial Tuesday, according to court records.
