ARCHBOLD, Ohio — A person was killed in a fiery single-car crash on U.S. 20-A near this Fulton County community early today, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, troopers at the patrol’s Toledo post said. The name of the driver was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, according to the patrol.

The car was westbound on U.S. 20-A just west of State Rt. 66, in the county’s German Township, about 3 a.m., when for unknown reason the vehicle drove off the north side of the road. The driver then over-corrected, causing the car to drive off the south side of the road and strike a tree, catching fire.

The crash remained under investigation.

Archbold is 40 miles southwest of Toledo.
