A Toledoan who police say paralyzed a man by shooting him was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court court this morning.

Breon Barnett, 20, of 527 Everett St., is charged with one count each of felonious assault and robbery.

He was ordered to be held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $400,000 bond.

Police allege the suspect robbed and shot Kenneth Downer, 29, in a backyard in the 500 block of Dexter Street on June 24.

Mr. Downer was shot in the back, according to a police report. Witnesses initially reported to police that they heard Mr. Downer arguing with two men before hearing several gunshots. The two men were seen running and then fleeing in a blue car.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 26.
