One woman was killed and another seriously injured when a minivan went out of control tonight in East Toledo, police said.

The vehicle was eastbound on Miami Street near the northbound I-75 exit ramp about 8:20 p.m. when it drove off the road, striking the women on the sidewalk near the Days Inn. The minivan, which also struck a fire hydrant, continued for at least 150 feet before stopping.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman was taken by Life Squad to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center as a trauma case.

The victims’ names were not released. Authorities said they were from Ohio, but not the Toledo area. One was born in 1985 and the other in 1988.

The driver, a man, also was taken to St. Vincent as a trauma case, but the reason was not reported.

Police closed the northbound I-75 exit ramp and Miami between the ramp and Oregon Road while they investigated the crash.
