Monroe County deputies arrest Toledoan in Lambertville standoff

LAMBERTVILLE -- A 40-year-old Toledo man who threatened to shoot himself during a two-hour standoff at a home on Wiseman Road in Lambertville was taken into custody after deputies disarmed him after the man fired his weapon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The man, whose name was not released, was not injured by the single gunshot.

The sheriff's office went to the home at 1:40 a.m. Saturday. Deputies were advised an intoxicated man was at the door and would not leave.

Upon arrival deputies reported the man was armed with a rifle and had threatened to shoot himself if he did not get to speak to his wife. Deputies learned that the man had been involved in a domestic dispute with his wife Friday night in Toledo, the sheriff's office said.

The Monroe County Special Response Team along with sheriff's hostage negotiators responded to secure the scene. Deputies had been negotiating with the man for about two hours when he turned the gun on himself and attempted to discharge it.

Deputies were able disarm the man as he fired one round, according to the sheriff's office. He was taken into custody at 3:45 a.m.
