PIONEER, Ohio -- The Ohio Highway Patrol on Monday identified David Kirk of Toledo as the driver killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday about two miles east of this Williams County community.

Mr. Kirk, 49, who was partially ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, in the county's Madison Township, according to the patrol.

The vehicle, a minivan, was eastbound on U.S. 20 about 8:50 a.m. when it went off the south side of U.S. 20 about a half-mile east of County Road 16, then drove back into the eastbound lane, the patrol said. The minivan appeared to then swerve back off the south side of the road, striking a utility pole on the left side of the vehicle. The roof of the minivan, which ended up on its left side, was cut off by emergency responders to get to the driver, troopers said.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol. Pioneer is about 55 miles west of Toledo.
